The disclosure

Bulb & Bough is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

In plain English: many of the product links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may receive a small commission from the retailer.

What it costs you

Nothing. The commission is paid by the retailer out of their margin. You pay exactly the same price you would pay going to the site directly, and the price you see is the price the retailer is charging everyone.

We also do not receive any information about what you buy beyond aggregate reporting. We cannot see your order, your name or your address.

How to spot an affiliate link

• Every buy button and product link on this site is an affiliate link. They are marked #ad with a link back to this page.
• Every commercial page carries a disclosure line directly under the byline, above the content.
• Affiliate links carry rel="sponsored nofollow" in the page source, which is how search engines are told they are paid links.
• Links to manufacturer documentation, standards and sources are not affiliate links. Those appear in the “Sources” section at the bottom of a page and earn us nothing.

Why it does not affect what we recommend

Because we do not look at commission rates when deciding what to recommend, and because the alternative business model — being wrong in a way readers notice — is worse for the site than any individual commission.

The concrete rules are in the editorial policy:

• Commission rate is never an input to a ranking
• If the cheaper product is the right one, the page says so
• No placement on this site can be bought
• No manufacturer has any say in what appears here

You can check this against the site itself. Several pages here tell you not to buy something, recommend the budget option over the premium one, or point out that the thing you were about to purchase will not work on your roof.

Prices

We do not write prices into the text of any page. Where live price data is available, it is shown with the date it was captured and it disappears automatically once it is more than 48 hours old — a stale price is worse than no price, and retailer prices change constantly.

Where no verified live price exists, the button says “Check price on Amazon” and takes you straight to the current listing. The price and availability you see there are the retailer’s, at the time you look, and they are the ones that apply.

Which retailers

Amazon is currently the only retailer we have an affiliate relationship with, and every product link on this site goes there. If that ever changes, this page will be updated before any new link is published.

Where a product is genuinely better bought elsewhere, or is not sold on Amazon at all, we will say so and link there without earning anything. That has already happened on this site — permanent lighting systems sold through local dealers, for example, are discussed on their merits with no link that earns us a commission.

Cookies

Clicking an affiliate link sets a cookie in your browser from the retailer, which is how they attribute a purchase to us. It expires on the retailer’s own schedule. Details of what this site itself collects are in the privacy policy.
